....and Newey's off to Lincoln

Former Dale left back Tom Newey, who left the club in May after the briefest of spells, is off to Lincoln on trial with a view to winning a permanent deal with the Imps.

After apparently two attempts by Lincoln boss Peter Jackson to sign Newey from their Lincolnshire rivals Grimsby last season, the former Huddersfield boss has got the chance to get his hands on Newey.

Newey is set to have a trial with Lincoln over the next week where he will hope to win a longer term deal with the Sincil Bank side. It could be that he will be meeting up with another former Dale player, as the Imps have declared their interest in bringing in former striker Rene Howe on a 12 month loan deal.

Newey was brought into Dale on transfer deadline day, on an "emergency loan" from Grimsby Town. His time at Grimsby was clearly coming to an end and he joined Dale for the remainder of his contract, primarily to act as back up to Tom Kennedy and with a view to win a deal at Dale.

Unfortunately, he didn't convince Keith Hill that his two game spell was worthy of anything longer and he was released / sent back to Grimsby following the defeat to Gillingham in the Play Offs.

A full look back at Newey's time with Dale can be found here.
