Refwatch Preview: Aldershot (h) Friday, 14th Aug 2009 08:48 Dale welcome official Phil Gibbs to Spotland this weekend to be the man in charge of Dale v Aldershot. Usual TVOS preview online now. Second year referee Phil Gibbs will travel up the M6 from Birmingham to take charge of Saturday’s game against Aldershot.
The 43-year old assistant headteacher has never appeared at Spotland before, but we saw him at Notts County last October when he awarded the Magpies a dubious penalty from which they took the lead.
However, they reckoned without the might of Lee Thorpe, who scored twice in the second half as Dale won 2-1.
Mr Gibbs was back at Meadow Lane last Saturday when he took charge of County’s 5-0 thrashing of Bradford.
Last season Phil refereed two of Aldershot’s home matches.
The first was a humorous affair as the Shots came from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 with bury.
He was also at the Recreation Ground for Aldershot’s final home game of the season, which was a 2-2 draw with Chester.
