The 34 year old full-back who was signed for the club by Nick Cusack in the summer has made just three starts for the Swans this season and has struggled with injury since his arrival from Grimsby. |
We are led to believe that this could be the end of Smith's career as a professional and with his 35th birthday looming in March then he would also be entitled to claim his PFA pension we are told. If this story turns out to be true then Smith will be the latest of Cusack's signings to leave the Vetch since the arrival of Brian Flynn with Michael Jackson, Jonathan Keaveny and Andrew Marsh already being shown the door. |
We also understand that two more of the summer signings were offered to have their contracts paid up earlier in the season but both refused to accept the offer put in front of them. |
It is always sad to hear that a professional's career may be cut short due to injury and if the source on this occasion is correct then we wish David all the best in his retirement. |
