In The Programme - Huddersfield Town

I sit down to write this article about two hours before the Swans return to the Vetch with a home game against Macclesfield Town. After a superb result given the circumstance at Scunthorpe last weekend a win will see us still on track to record promotion come the end of the season. With Lee Trundle still taking the plaudits it was good to hear that the performance of Richard Duffy taking centre stage as well 'oop North' - maybe the Wales on Sunday have a point and Jimmy Shoulder should also consider looking further West than Ninian Park when considering a squad. And for the Wales on Sunday to recognise that is praise indeed as we all know the world ends at Cardiff for most in the capital!

I was also interested to see this week that Lee Trundle is eligible for the Republic of Ireland. At this stage maybe the trust would like to launch a 'Granny for Trundle' campaign which is aimed at finding a Welsh granny prepared to adopt the dapped one so that he can represent us (hopefully!) in Portugal next summer. Daps and Super John leading a Jack assault on Euro 2004 makes interesting, even if wishful, thinking don't you think?

And while we are on the subject of Mr Magic himself, most here will remember that last season Leon Britton was voted as PFA player of the year in the third division by the fans. Well the awards are open again and Swans fans are at the moment voting in their droves for the division's leading scorer to win the award for the first month of the season. If you have internet access then add your vote to the campaign at www.givemefootball.com - how nice would it be at the end of the season to see a clean sweep of Swansea awards for player of the month? We have the talent here in the team to deserve it - we can all make a difference by voting.

One of the most unbelievable things I have heard over the past seven days was the story of Scott Thornberry, a Darlington fan. Scott, like myself runs a web-site on his favourite side. It's hard work (please believe me!) but worthwhile when you see the people that make their own community of it. Enough of blowing my own trumpet though, Scott has come into a bit of bother with the owner of Darlington - the infamous George Reynolds. By all accounts George sent a few people round to Scott's house over a disagreement with a few comments made on the message board of the site. Scott wasn't in but his seven and a half month pregnant wife was and she took the brunt of the (verbal I hasten to add) assault. The upshot is Scott had his season ticket removed and was banned from the Reynolds arena with immediate effect. Now I cannot imagine how he feels but I would imagine it would not be very nice to be banned from the side that means so much to you. What I cannot believe is that, from what I hear, is that they are only fans comments rather than anything libellous or vindictive. This is where I do think that we are lucky in what we have here in fans in charge of the club as many of the things you or I would say/think regards performance quite possibly goes through their mind as well as they are one of us. I find it incredible that chairman/owners just turn their back on fans so easily like that and it follows that others give up on the club as well through principle. Very sad and very true but again I guess when Mr Reynolds wife accused players of throwing matches a year or so back we shouldn't be overly surprised.

But anyway back to the Swans and as we fast approach the quarter mark of the season, the league table starts to take more shape and the Swans are in a much much better shape than last season. For a change we look at results at the right end of the table as opposed to last year and long may that continue.
