Rushden & Diamonds won the Isle of Man tournament after drawing 1-1 with Bristol Rovers in the final. Marcus Kelly nodded Rushden ahead but Richard Walker levelled late on, before the Diamonds won the shoot-out 8-7.

Bury fared badly against local rivals Wigan, going down 4-0 at Gigg Lane - Jason Roberts and Nathan Ellington scoring twice each. Cambridge fared little better, losing 4-3 at Stevenage Borough. Goals from Danny Webb and Darren Quinton helped the U's fight back from conceding an early goal. Easter put them 3-2 up on the hour mark but two late goals gave the non league side victory.

Cheltenham Town remained unbeaten in pre-season with a 3-1 win over Bournemouth - Damian Spencer netting twice and Grant McCann grabbing a 25 yard third goal. There was a good win for Darlington as they beat Blackpool 2-0 - Goals from Scartascini and N'Diaye, following mistakes from the visitors, sealed the win.

Grimsby were beaten 2-0 at Scarborough - goals for the non leaguers from Tony Hackworth and Chris Senior sealed the Mariners fate. Kidderminster tasted victory for the first time this pre season with en exciting 4-3 win over Walsall. Harriers were two down within 14 minutes but a goal from Diop just before the break gave them hope. Mickey Mellon grabbed an equaliser immediately after the break and after falling 3-2 down but a penalty from Ian Foster and a last minute goal from Keates sealed a good win.

Lee Steele was on target with a hat-trick as Leyton Orient cruised to a 5-0 victory over Farnborough Town. Matt Lockwood and Wayne Purser grabbed the other goals for the O's. And it was goalless at Sincil Bank as 4,500 watched Lincoln and Nottimgham Forest play out a 0-0 draw.

Macclesfield can be pleased with their afternoon's work as they cruised to a 4-0 win over Scottish side Dumbarton. Danny Whittaker was on the scoresheet twice whilst John Miles and Jon Parkin got the other goals.

Title favourites Northampton played out a 0-0 draw with Championship side Wolves in front of 3100 at Sixfields which included over 800 making the trip from Wolverhampton. Oxford were due to meet Havant and Waterlooville but the game was called off on police advice when they learned that hooligans from Oxford and Portsmouth had arranged to meet outside the ground.

Southend were cruising to victory over Dagenham and Redbridge until conceding three goals in the last 15 minutes meaning they had to settle for a 3-3 draw. Drew Broughton and 2 from Wayne Gray seemed to have given the league side a comfortable win until the spirited fightback. Wycombe had to be content with a 0-0 draw at Weymouth with former Swans Nathan Tyson going off injured.

Yeovil manager Gary Johnson had his side in for extra training after they lost 3-0 to Bristol City - Paul Heffernan (2) and Christian Roberts scoring for City.
