Man Utd Boss Was Disappointed In Starts

Febian Brandy has revealed that Sir Alex Ferguson was disappointed with the number of starts he had last season

But clearly not disappointed enough to prevent him coming back to Swansea on a six month loan which started this week when the team flew out to Spain.

Maybe it isn't as glamorous as his last football trip abroad - he went to Moscow with the rest of the squad to watch Man Utd be crowned European Champions - but it is something that he knows could propel him nearer his ultimate dream of playing for United's first team.

Brandy started just two games in the league last season for the Swans compared to his seventeen starts and that is something that he wants to correct this season although he does admit that he treasures his League One winners medal irrespective of how it was earned and has even been showing it off to the more illustrious members of the squad at Old Trafford!

Speaking to the Western Mail, Brandy said “The senior players at United had seen my progress and knew I’d done well

“And some came up to me and told me to keep doing what I am and it will eventually give me a chance in the first team.

“A couple of players like Scholesy and Gaz Neville even asked me to bring my League One medal into training to have a look at it and they were impressed.

“They each had their Champions League medal, but I had my League One medal ... and I was proud of that.

“At the end of the day a medal is a medal. I played a small part in the promotion, but I worked hard for it like the rest of the Swans team and if you work hard you get what you deserve.

“That’s what I’m going to do again because if I can start more games and push more goals then hopefully I could get a chance at Manchester United.

“Just going to Moscow with the rest of the squad and being part of the celebrations was a great experience and everyone would want to be part of that.

“Yes, I was frustrated at times last year when I didn’t play as many games as I would have liked, but that’s football and that was Roberto’s call – he’s the manager and I know as well as anyone you have to be patient and wait for your chances.

“And it didn’t put me off coming back because Roberto is a fair manager and if I work hard I’ll get my opportunities and hopefully that will mean more starts than last year.

“That’s important to me because I know Sir Alex was kind of disappointed I didn’t play that much, as much as he was pleased it all went well for me here.

“But I know I need to play more this year and score more goals and if that happens maybe I can push for the first-team at Manchester United.

“That’s the aim and Fraizer Campbell has already shown what can happen if you do well in the Championship and that’s why I want more starts and be able to push for more goals.

“I was more than happy to sign to try and achieve that; I knew Roberto wanted me back after talking to him at the end of last season but everyone’s been playing the waiting game – I know I’m way down Sir Alex’s list of things to do because he’s got to sort all the big boys out first!

“But when he called me aside and asked if I wanted to go out on loan I was happy. I know what the team are like and now this is a bigger and better challenge in the Championship and it’s a challenge I’m looking forward to.”
