Scotland Fires Swansea Into 7th Place

Jason Scotland scored the only goal of the game as the Swans moved up to 7th in the Championship

Scotland converted a perfect chipped through ball from Darren Pratley with just one minute remaining of the first half to give the Swans victory and move them to the dizzy heights of 7th place after their two wins in three games.

The goal was perfect reward for a first half that they dominated with Ferrie Bodde, Darren Pratley and Mark Gower all coming close to grabbing a goal and only the efforts of Stack in the home goal kept the scoreline down to one.

The Swans were showing signs of a team that won fourteen times on the road last season and with just the one change from the team which started against Nottingham Forest last weekend there is an air of stability that is currently flowing through the whole club.   That one change was Angel Rangel coming in ahead of Matty Collins who dropped out of the final 16 - presumably because Alan Tate doubles up as our emergency keeper should the need arise.

Thus the Swans lined up as follows: -

Dorus

Rangel     Monk     Williams     Painter

Britton     Bodde     Pratley

Gower     Scotland     Butler

The excellent Darren Pratley almost opened the scoring inside the first couple of minutes when he drove a strong shot from Butler's pass towards the top corner but it was pushed away by Stack whilst Bodde had a long range shot given the same treatment by the Plymouth keeper.

At the back, Fallon and McLean were being easily controlled by Monk and Williams at the back which left plenty of opportunity for Rangel and Painter to get forward - the latter doing it to far greater effect and combining well with Butler.

Pratley was controlling the midfield and the Swans were getting more and more in control as the home fans started getting edgy and began the barracking of their team.   Bodde drove a free kick towards the bottom corner that was tipped around and you began to wonder if the Swans were ever to get their reward.

They were though.  Scotland controlled well and found Pratley around 25-30 yards out and ran on for the return pass which Pratley chipped to perfection allowing Scotland to hold off the defender and beat Stack at the near post to give the Swans the lead just as it looked as if the first half was going to end scoreless.

The second half followed much the same pattern even if the Swans struggled initially to gain control.   Plymouth had a goal disallowed for what seemed no real reason - something the commentators enjoyed mentioning every two minutes - whilst there were good chances for Pratley and Scotland whilst Butler and Gower were constant threats on the flank.

Rangel as well was coming more into the game whilst Pratley was continuing his man of the match performance before being replaced by Jordi Gomez whilst Gorka was a late replacement for the goalscorer Scotland.

The Swans survived a little bit of Plymouth pressure towards the end but there was no real threat to Dorus' goal and the final whistle signalled the Swans second consecutive victory and a move into the top half of the table.  And with three of the next four games being at the Liberty then who is to say it couldn't get better before the season is too much older?

But for now, enjoy the moment as the Swans win again - what a good habit to have!!
