Former Swansea boss Roberto Martinez is lining up an official bid for striker Jason Scotland according to latest press reports

Speculation has been mounting that the 30 year old forward would be on his way out of the Liberty Stadium door this summer and with a bid in excess of £1 million from premiership side Burnley rejected, the resolve of the club to keep hold of the highly sought after striker will be further tested.

Evaluating the Trinidad and Tobago striker at £2 million, Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins believes that Wigan will be making a firm offer for one of the most prolific strikers outside of the top flight as he told the SWEP, he said , “ We have had firm interest from Wigan. But as yet, nobody has met our valuation for Jason Scotland or any other one of our players.”

"I have had numerous conversations with a variety of clubs about a variety of things. That is the case all day, every day. I have not had any written offers since Burnley came in originally for Jason, but I think you could say Wigan are looking to make one.”

Fuelling rumours that the player was about to move on, the former Dundee United man will miss the pre-season training camp in Portugal. Attributing this omission from the travelling squad due to a long standing groin injury, Jenkins has played down any significance to why Scotland has not travelled with the rest of the team “Jason is injured. He is a Swansea City player and if he was fit he would be in Portugal. He has a groin problem and it's a complete coincidence that he is not on the trip. Exactly the same is true of Ferrie Bodde. If he was fit he would be with the rest of the squad."

Scotland has been a pivotal player in the clubs recent success scoring over 50 goals in a 100 or so appearances for the club. However the striker has not hid his desire at taking on the best teams in the world as he outlined in a recent interview with the Trinidad and Tobago express.
