Andrea Orlandi has signed a two year deal to stay at the Liberty Stadium

The Swansea City midfielder put an end to the speculation that he was about to move on from the club by penning a two year deal.

Orlandi signed from Alaves in the summer of 2007 and last season saw him make over 30 appearances as he was switched from a wide position to central midfield by then manager Paulo Sousa.

There had been speculation that he would join up with Sousa at Leicester but the new contract kills that and Orlandi could feature in today's home friendly against Cheltenham.

He told the official website "I'm glad it's finally over, there were a lot of things to focus on with Paulo going and the new manager coming in.

"The chairman was keen for me to speak to him before anything was agreed. It was something I wanted to do as well because we may not have suited each other.

"But I was lucky that he wants to play the game the same way - the Swansea way. It's a style that I think suits me - the mentality and the passing game.

"I was very impressed with what he had to say and I can't wait to improve my fitness and start the new season properly.'

"I've trained on my own in Swansea over the last three weeks,'' he added. "I've trained in the park and on the beach, wherever I can really.

"It's not the same as training together with the rest of the lads though. My legs are aching a bit after the last two days, but I've enjoyed it.

"I've liked what I've seen. In fact, all the lads have enjoyed training under the new gaffer and the way he speaks to us.

"He's a nice man and a good manager. He has coached some of the best players in the world and I'm sure I will learn a lot from him.''
