Brendan Rodgers has urged those players he selects tonight against Shrewsbury to stake their own claims for a Premier League place

The Swansea CIty manager is expected to make several changes from the side that drew 0-0 with Wigan on Saturday at the Liberty as the Swans enter the Carling Cup at Shrewsbury this evening.

The likes of Alan Tate, Joe Allen and Mark Gower are likely to be given their chances tonight and give the manager a selection headache for the visit of Sunderland to the Liberty on Saturday.

Also back in contention this evening should be Garry Monk as he makes his return from injury as the Swans look to seal their progress into Round Three.

“Of course we know what our priorities are but the team that plays will still be a very, very good side." said Rodgers

“I’ve players waiting to come in and they are players I still want to feel are very much part of the group.

“They work tirelessly every day and it is important to keep that motivation there and make sure they get the game time under competition.

“Everyone in the squad is equal, it just depends on how I want to use them.

“I also have to respect the players who got us up last season.

“So we will make changes for Shrewsbury but it certainly will not be a weakened side.

“When we spoke with the players before the start of the season one of the main objectives was obviously to stay in the Premier League but also to have a good run in the cups.

“Their ambitions matched my own and I would like to win every game.”
