Player Review 13/14 - Kelvin Davis Wednesday, 14th May 2014 08:49 Kelvin was mainly restricted to playing in the cups this season, however he provided valuable cover and experience. It surprised me when I checked the stats for this review that Kelvin only played two Premier League games, the defeat at Everton and the following home loss to Chelsea, although he conceded five goals in those games, he didn't let anyone down. In the cups it was different, he played in every cup game, which is strange in that clearly kelvin was considered the number 3 keeper, yet he played in the cups whilst Paulo Gazzaniga did not get the chance to gain valuable experience and some wonder why he struggled when called upon, perhaps here we have the answer. Kelvin has been a good servant for this club, he has played 261(1) league games for it since joining in 2006 and when you add up all the cup appearances he has turned out 293 times for us in total, sadly Im not sure he will make that magical 300. I hope there is room for Kelvin at St Mary's whatever his failings sometimes as a keeper, he has been a good servant to the club and can rightly take his place in the history books as one of our longest serving players. But I think this season is probabaly the end of the road for him as a keeper, to be blunt it should be in that we need to look at the back up for Artur Boruc, Paulo Gazzaniga is at the crossroads and needs to go out on loan for that experience and in truth we need a younger and better keeper to sit on the bench than Kelvin, someone who truly has that Premier experience than Kelvin lacks. I dont mean this review to sound too negative, but in football sometimes its time to take things forward and sadly i think for Kelvin this is one of those times, his opportunities are now very limited he has had a long career he too needs to take the next step forward, as I said I would be delighted if he remains at the club.
