Argentina star Angel Di Maria has been ruled out of the remainder of the World Cup after sustaining an injury in Saturday’s win over Belgium.

A thigh injury during the first half of the Quarter Final victory looks like keeping the Real Madrid man out of both the Semi Final, and the Final should Argentina make it.

It will be a blow to boss Alejandro Sabella who has been accused of being overly reliant on Lionel Messi, himself saying this week that Messi was like “water in the desert” to his team when they are struggling.

Meanwhile, news of Di Maria’s injury came just hours after Brazilian star Neymar had been ruled out of the tournament following a broken vertebra.

Argentina fans had been seen celebrating Neymar’s injury by parading a plastic spine around the streets of Brazil following the victory over Belgium.

Argentina will take on Holland in Sao Paulo on Wednesday in the second Semi-Final.
