Koeman Confident Of Imminent New Signings
Thursday, 31st Jul 2014 23:14

Ronald Koeman has spoken of his confidence that Saints will bring in several new signings in the next few days.

Its been a tough week to be a Saints fan, but after the arrival of Ryan Bertrand there looks to be a host of signings lined up in the coming week to lift the gloom and show that Saints are far from finished as a Premier League force.

Koeman speaking after the win at Brighton said

“We are close to signing two or three new players and we hope to bring them in in the next week,” said Koeman.

“We show our ambition.

“Of course we lost some good players but that’s part of the life and part of the good season Southampton had last season.

“Still we are with the same ambition as before.”

Good news and it cannot be understed just how much some quality arrivals will boost the Saints supporters battered by the number of players who have left or seemingly want to leave.

On the subject of Morgan Schneiderlin Koeman commented that he had spoken to the French midfielder and reminded him of the need to keep things in house, hopefully Morgan will heed the words of an experienced footballing man.

Saints are being linked with some exciting aims, one that looks increasingly certain is the loan exchange signing of Saphir Taider from Inter Milan with Osvaldo going in the other direction, this looks good business and will enable Saints to get Osvaldo off the wage bill and bring in a quality replacement with no outlay leaving money freed up for permanent signings.

Whilst some decry loan signings they are a vital part of the game and Koeman will be aware of the need to strengthen the squad overall as well as bringing in the bigger names that will excite the fans.

Perhaps the biggest rumour though is Javier Hernandez from Manchester United, there is talk of being one man incoming who will really excite the fans and this could be it.

Thought Hernandez didn't want to come or was that just the usual mail / mirror propaganda. Makes you wonder if their journalists are in someone's pocket doesn't it.

players often dont want to come initially, usually because they are hedging their bets to try and see if a better deal comes along

Looks like a goal hungry team being prepared. We looked pretty last season but often ended up going nowhere.

Agree with your point about loan signings being a vital part of the game Nick. At this point in time it's better for us that we get at least loan players than not at all given the summer exodus. If they're proven and experienced like Bertrand, then bring it on I say. It will also give RK more time to see what works and what doesn't without committing to a long term investment, which, let's face it, may not work. Everyone want stability of course, but in some ways loan signings suit new managers and coaches better to start with at least...

While it's great to see Saints score, with our current defence we'll need to score about 10 each game! top of the list should be 2-3 centre backs (depending on how "unsettled" Fonte is) and we need them quick so they can gel.

Wish we would take a punt on Zaha on a loan/purchase later deal and he needs to be valued and directed to achieve his full potential.

That lad Gnabry at Arsenal is pure class. He's got a big future ahead of him. We need more attacking options and he fits the bill.

We absolutely do NOT want to go down the route of loaning other clubs young players. Get Forster and Van Dijk in ASAP, Hernandez would be a great signing or Classie. I think the club needs a big name to settle the media down if not anyone else. Did anyone else see the article that idiot Ben Smith wrote online for the BBC about how '15 year olds may not see a future in our academy'...because we've sold 5 players for top money. Whilst the exits this summer have been disappointing, it is only really Lovren and Lallana who we will struggle to replace.

I have published a post on my blog about how loaning players in may be very advantageous for us right now.

Without doubt the dressing room is in an uproar and at the centre appears to be the sacking of Cortese and impasse between him and KL
