Craig keeps cool and Pompey keep unbesten start going Saturday, 23rd Aug 2014 23:30 by pompey-fans.com staff It's three wins in a week for Pompey after Craig Westcarr's late strike earned them victory at Oxford, where they had not been at their best. Michael Appleton's hosts had the better chances in the first half but paid for not putting any of them away when Westcarr scored his second goal in two games by putting away Nicky Shorey's cross in the 80th minute. Danny Hylton had hit the woodwork before the break but Pompey perked up in the second goal and were certainly worth a point, if not all three. It puts Andy Awford's team second in the table with Newport their next League Two opponents at Fratton next Saturday. Awford said: 'In the first half we didn't play at our best, we were camped in a bit, but the important thing when that happens is to hang in there, and we did that. It was a really hard-earned three points. 'The half-time message was to keep the ball better. In the second half we were a lot better and controlled the game. It wasn't the prettiest of goals but Craig Westcarr won't mind that. That's two goals in two games for him now and he's full of confidence.'
