Hughes And Monk Split On Penalty Decisions

I guess it was no surprise that Mark Hughes had a different view to the penalty decisions that will be talked about long after the dust has settled on the Swans defeat at Stoke this afternoon.

Hughes also called Garry Monk 'inexperienced' after his after match comments in which he accused Victor Moses of cheating to win the penalty that sent Stoke into the half time interval level after a first 45 minutes that had been dominated completely by the Swans.

The former Wales manager though was more concerned with the penalty conceded by his side where he believed that Ryan Shawcross had been targeted as a guilty party for tussles in the area following a meeting earlier this year.

“I see challenges like the one that Ryan made. I went to manager meetings at the start of the year where referees were talking about it. For whatever reason Ryan has been targeted because for whatever reason people believe he does holding in the box more than anybody which is complete nonsense." Hughes told Sky Sports after the game

“You see everybody in the Premier League holding people at corners. He has just seen the lad go down quite easily. Bony is a big lad — 15/16 stone of pure muscle and he has gone down too easily in my mind.

“I can see the point that Swansea are making with the one that was given to us but at the end of the day he is running at pace in the box and you see Rangel’s arm come across and that is Victor impeded in my view."

The two penalties were the only goals in the first half although there were many chances for the Swans that they failed to take which ultimately cost them the win that their first half display probably deserved.

Monk had made reference to those chances in his interview but it was his comments about a 'disgraceful' decision and cheating that had got to Hughes when he added “I heard Garry say that my player was a cheat which is unacceptable ib my view. He is obviously upset, we have to come in here twenty minutes after the game and speak about what has gone on and sometimes you just have to bite your tongue and that comes with experience"
