Refwatch Preview: Hereford v Dale

Our build up to Saturday continues with a look at the man charged with ensuring that any 90th minute winners that we might score get disallowed to allow the opposition to win it. It's Graham Horwood of Luton.

We were due a first season ref at Peterborough, but he (Steve Cook) failed his fitness test and therefore didn’t appear. At Edgar Street on Saturday we have another newbie and it looks as though he IS fit enough as this will be his third game.

On the opening day of the season Mr Horwood refereed Bradford v Macclesfield, while on Saturday he was in the middle for Wrexham v Morecambe. Considering he comes from Luton, he’s probably glad of the relatively shorter trip to Hereford!

I remember seeing the penalty Mr Horwood gave Bradford against Macc in that first game; ‘joke decision’ doesn’t even come close to explaining it. Then again, that’s what happens when you have 13,000 Bradfordians baying for your blood. Just ask Rita, Sue … oh, and Bob too!!

Macclesfield manager Ian Brightwell wasn’t impressed wither, claiming Horwood had been “bullied” by the Bradford players and large crowd.

Searching Google shows us that Graham Horwood is something of a Tai Chi expert; well, it would if it was the same Graham Horwood, but it isn’t.

No, our Graham Horwood is this man, a referee who sent off Oxford manager Jim Smith last season after the Bald Eagle had offered his spectacles to a linesman.

Hilly, you have been warned!
