Swans Win On The Road Again

Bafetimbi Gomis struck three minutes from time to score the only goal of the game as the Swans ended the good recent form of Aston Villa with a win at Villa Park this afternoon.

The picture at the top of this report says it all for me with delight on the face of Gomis plain for all to see and will go some way to reducing the criticism that he receives from Swansea fans. That criticism was still rife this afternoon but the best way to silence the critics as a striker is to score the goals and this one is the one that sees us up to 43 points - one more than we managed last season in total.

And with eight games to play there is every chance that we will go way beyond the 47 point barrier that is our target - a figure that would represent our best total since we arrived in this division four years ago.

Gomis held off Ciaran Clark to finish off the pass of Jefferson Montero to finish an afternoon that looked as if he would end frustrated having seen two shots saved by the home keeper as the Swans had double the amounts of shots on target that Aston Villa had in the game.

Goals have always been in short supply for Aston Villa this season - having scored just 11 at home prior to today and that figure was not added to as Lucasz Fabianski kept out the home side for yet another clean sheet for a player who must be classed as one of the signings of the season for the difference he has made to the Swansea defence.

Indeed it was former Swansea star Scott Sinclair who looked the most dangerous threat that Villa had but he never looked like testing the theory of whether you should celebrate against your former side as he wasted the best chances he had.

Wayne Routledge had one cleared off the line as well as the Swans had by far the best of the chances but for large periods of the game it always looked like it was just going to be one goal that made the difference and so it proved in the end with thankfully that one goal going our way to earn us the points as we won away from home once more.
