Fraser Forster Takes A Big Jump Towards Comeback
Thursday, 22nd Oct 2015 09:33

Fraser Forster has posted a video of himself on twitter showing that he is coming along nicely towards a return from his knee injury suffered 7 months ago.

Fraser Forster has taken a big jump (literally) towards his return to action with a video of him doing jump training in the gymnasium, which hopefully means he is at an advanced stage towards his comeback and that everything is back on track.

But he will still have a long way to go before he is ready for first team action as he will not only need to regain match fitness, but also his sharpness and reflexes etc.

With goalkeepers it is not just as easy as it was with Ryan Bertrand as an outfield player where they can gain their fitness and confidence playing games, keepers have to work on other areas including reflexes, decision making and most importantly confidence.

Over the next month or two Saints will be working hard with Forster on all of these and more building up to a first team return.

Forster himself will be hoping that is sooner than later as not only does h need o ours Marten Steklenburg from the number 1 spot, but he will be looking to regain his place in the England squad for the Euro's next summer and with Joe Hart in fine form along with the emergence of Jack Butland at Stoke, that will not be a simple task.

But the video shows Forster in good shape and good spirits and hopefully he will continue his progress.

This is excellent news I personally think Forster is better than Davis and Stekelenberg even if you put them both in goal at the same time, its also good news that Gardos is on the comeback he is a very good/excellent back up that just needed games, I still don't know what's happened to Caulker we could of done with him at right back on sat to deal with Leicester's hit Schlupp at all costs method, still 3 points Sunday coyr.

The stats back that up
Since last October
Forster 22 games 65 shots on target 16 conceded 75% saved
Kelvin 9 games 35 shots on target 14 conceded 60% saved
The Stek 8 games 20 shots on target 10 conceded 50% saved

The Forster of last season is key to us rediscovering our defensive solidity, not just in shot stopping (which he is brilliant at) but also control of the area and distribution which let kelvin down badly. Steklenburg controls the area but lets too many past him.

Weird that we never hear a thing from inside the club. Injuries are one area where Koeman is less transparent than usual. Evidently goalkeepers have an influence on games even if only for the psychological impact it has on the back four but Soares & Van Dyck have not played with him before in a Saints line-up. Stekelenberg has done little wrong.

SaintBrock - I believe the lack of transparency on injuries is a case of keeping our cards close to our chest to disrupt our opponents' ability to prepare for our games.

Rather than be seen to give mis-information which makes you look dishonest we prefer to give none.

Fair point is some circumstances darkangelv2 but where long term injuries are involved surely no opposition expects a miracle and that somebody like Fraser will trot out unexpectedly at Anfield tomorrow?

I think there is more in it than that but do not know what, possibly medical insurance issues or liabilities?
