Last Few Hundred Tickets Left For Arsenal
Friday, 27th Jan 2017 09:23

Saints are now down to the last few hundred tickets for the visit of Arsenal in the FA Cup tomorrow.

A week ago it looked like the televised FA Cup tie against the Gunners would be played in front of a far from packed St Mary's, but it is amazing what a semi final win can do for enthusiasm and yesterday saw the online ticket system queued up and several thousand tickets flew out of the door.

Now a look at the system reveals that only a few hundred seats remain all in the Chapel end of the ground and most of these look likely to go before end of play today.

Saints supporters who are members but were previously not planning to go have suddenly snapped up tickets in order to increase their chances of getting a ticket for next months League cup final and now the stadium will be packed to capacity for Arsenal's visit.

So if you are looking to attend this game get in quick

This is the 9th of our 9 top flight seasons at St Mary's when the average attendance has been over 30,000.

Just one trophy and demand would definitely outgrow the stadium capacity. If the club is planning to win trophies, it will need to think about stadium expansion. Maybe that's what the purpose of the partnership with Lander would be, as they build stadiums.

I wonder what our average would really be if (just pretend) we had a stadium which expanded to take whoever arrived ie you could always get in. I suspect we would get over 40,000 for the real biggies but what would be the average for bread and butter games? It is always easy enough to get a ticket for home games nowadays. 30,000 in a 40,000 stadium leaves rather a lot of empty spaces.

It is a debate that will always be there in the background - I reckon full houses for even the lesser games will need to become the rule before it is seriously considered (unless this new lot are running buses from China).

Forget you're burgers and pies, If bread and butters on the menu at the lesser games, I'm definitely going.
