Refwatch: Dale v Blackburn
Thursday, 7th Sep 2017 17:19 by TVOS
Referee Stephen Martin is the man in the middle for Dale’s first league game against Blackburn in 43 years on Saturday.
The Staffordshire-based whistler is in his sixth season on the league list and since the start of last term he has been a member of the Select Group 2 referees who mainly officiate in the Championship.
Among his higher-profile appointments last season was a controversial televised game between Nottingham Forest and Newcastle in December in which The Magpies had two players sent-off in the first half as they went down to a 2-1 defeat.
This season Stephen has refereed four games in the Championship, most recently Birmingham v Reading a couple of Saturdays ago.
Saturday will be his seventh Dale game, but only the second at the Crown Oil Arena. His previous visit was on the final day of last term for the 1-1 draw against Bradford.
The full list of Mr Martin’s Dale matches is:
Sep 2012 v Rotherham (a), W 3-2
Nov 2012 v Morecambe (a, FAC), D 1-1
Oct 2014 v Swindon (a), W 3-2
Feb 2015 v Walsall (a), L 2-3
Oct 2015 v Southend (a), D 2-2
Apr 2017 v Bradford (h), D 1-1
All told this season, Stephen has refereed six games, showing six yellow cards.
