Adshead set to become Dale's youngest
Monday, 18th Sep 2017 08:00

Sixteen year old Daniel Adshead could become Dale's youngester ever player if he is handed his Dale debut when we travel to Gigg Lane on Tuesday night - thirty years to the very day that the record was last broken.

The current holder of this record is Zac Hughes who made his Dale debut back on 19th September 1987 when we took on Exeter. Hughes was 16 years and 105 days on that day.

If Adshead makes his debut at Gigg Lane, he will be 16 years and 17 days. Keith Hill has previously indicated that Adshead is likely to be given a runout in the Checkatrade Trophy, similiar to how Aaron Morley and Matty Gillam were last season.

The top ten youngest debutants for Dale are:

Zac Hughes, 16 years 105 days v Exeter (a), Sep 1987
Danny Taberner, 16 years 147 days v Luton (h, FA Cup), Nov 2009
Ted Oliver, 16 years 156 days v Barnsley (a), Aug 1977
Stephen Bywater, 16 years 213 days v Carlisle (a, AWS), Jan 1998
Aaron Morley, 16 years 219 days v Notts County (h, CT), Oct 2016
Steve Milligan, 16 years 298 days v Gillingham (h), Apr 1990
Johny Diba, 16 years 308 days v Chesterfield (a), Aug 2014
Matt Williams, 16 years 320 days v Boston (a), May 2005
Jamie Taylor, 16 years 334 days v Gillingham (a), Dec 1993
Carl Alford, 16 years 351 days v Exeter (a), Jan 1989
