Hitman Pitman is doubling up on Pompey plaudits

Pompey fans might not know too much about Rotherham's Kieffer Moore - but they have found out plenty in recent weeks about the man who shares with him top billing in the country's goalscoring charts.

Moore and Brett Pitman have each scored eight League One goals in the first 10 games of the season - and no-one in League One, Two, the Premier or the Championship can match it.

Pitman has scored seven of his eight at home and has hit doubles in three separate games - most recently in Tuesday night's 3-0 win against Bristol Rovers, when his late double made sure of the points after Oliver Hawkins' maiden Blues strike had given Kenny Jackett's men the edge.

Pitman may not have had an all-singing all-dancing game but he is proving deadly in front of his goal and these latest efforts earned him another man of the match award.

Jackett is understandably pleased with the former Bournemouth and Ipswich man's contribution, with Oldham, who visit Fratton on Saturday, next in the striker's sights.

Jackett told The News after the Gas were beaten: 'They were two excellent goals from Brett, key ones as well. His second — and our third — was class, while there was a decisive header when the game was still in the balance at 1-0 up.

‘The only targets we have set him is to be a good captain and to be a good player. He has a very good goal-scoring record wherever he has been — and I don’t think it is going to be any different here.

‘It was a big move for us to get him, the fact he is a south-coast lad helps. ‘He has a feeling for the club and I think that shows in his play.’
