Refwatch: Dale v Stoke
Monday, 2nd Oct 2017 20:15 by TVOS

Dale will meet a new EFL referee on Tuesday when Martin Coy takes charge of their Checkatrade Trophy group game at home to Stoke City U21.

The County Durham official is in his first season on the referees’ list and this will be his eighth appointment already.

He began the campaign with Stevenage v Newport in League Two, while Mr Coy’s most recent game was Port Vale v Forest Green a couple of weeks ago, although he limped out of action that afternoon with an injury.

Martin ended last season with a Forest Green fixture when he took charge of the second leg of their National League play-off semi-final versus Dagenham & Redbridge.

That was one of a large number of National League games for Mr Coy last season, as well as the Barrow v Taunton FA Cup first round replay.

A headteacher in County Durham, Martin’s seven games to date this term have yielded only eight yellow cards.
