Refwatch: Blackburn v Dale
Monday, 25th Dec 2017 15:00 by TVOS

Dale will meet a new EFL referee on Boxing Day when Michael Salisbury takes charge of their League One game at Blackburn Rovers.

The Preston official is in his second season on the referees’ list, but this will be the first time he has refereed a Rochdale game.

However, he was the fourth official at our recent Checkatrade Trophy home tie against Doncaster, as well as running the line at several Dale games in his days as an assistant referee.

In 2014/15, Michael was promoted to a Premier League assistant referee and during that time he also joined the FIFA list, officiating at games in Malta and France.

However, in 2016 he opted to follow the refereeing route and after promotion to the National List, he kicked-off his league career with a game between Leyton Orient and Newport.

The PE teacher refereed up and down the country in League One and League Two last term, something which has continued this season with games at such diverse locations as Scunthorpe, Carlisle, Stevenage, Oxford and Bury!

As is also often the case, Mr Salisbury has followed in the refereeing footsteps of his father, Graham Salisbury, who has officiated many Dale games down the years.

Back to this season and Michael’s 19 matches before the Christmas period saw him show 47 yellow cards and two red.
