Refwatch: Dale v Lincoln
Monday, 8th Jan 2018 18:00 by TVOS

Ben Toner will make the short trip over from Darwen to referee Dale’s Checkatrade Trophy tie versus Lincoln on Tuesday.

The official is in his third season on the referees’ list and this will be his fourth appointment at the Crown Oil Arena in that time.

The most recent of those was just before Christmas when Ben was the fourth official at our 1-1 draw with Walsall.

In September he was the man in the middle for the dramatic 2-1 win over Doncaster, while in December 2016, Mr Toner was in charge of Dale’s 3-2 win over Scunthorpe.

He was due to referee the home game against Port Vale last March, but the match was postponed and Seb Stockbridge officiated on the new date!

Ben’s only other Dale game was in March 2016 when he was in the middle for our 2-0 loss at Shrewsbury.

A 32-year-old science teacher in Fleetwood, Ben was due to referee the FA Cup third round tie between Stevenage and Reading on Saturday.

Before then, he had overseen 20 games this term, showing 60 yellow cards and four red.

His last league appointment was Scunthorpe v Bury on New Year’s Day.
