Poor Pompey punished by Seasiders
Sunday, 25th Feb 2018 17:14 by pompey-fans.com staff

Pompey turned in one of their worst displays of the season to lose at home to Blackpool.

They were unchanged from the team who'd won impressively at Fleetwood in midweek but there was never much chance of a repeat showing here.

It looked like being goalless at the break until Kyle Vassell dispossessed Christian Burgess and took it on to finish smartly past Luke McGee.

The Blues rarely looked like getting back into it and their fate was sealed 18 minutes into the second half when Jay Spearing found space for a cross that was simply headed home by Clark Robertson.

That was the signal for some of the home fans to make an extra-early exit and if truth be known, they didn't miss a lot in the final quarter of the game.

Afterwards boss Kenny Jackett said: 'Ultimately, they made fewer mistakes than us. We didn’t create enough and couldn’t find a tempo to our play. After a very good win at Fleetwood on Tuesday night we needed to build some momentum, but the players still need to keep their heads up.'

Pompey go to Bradford next Saturday.

Pompey: McGee; Walkes, Burgess, Clarke, Donohue; Lowe, May, Close, Kennedy (Ronan 56); Chaplin, Hawkins (Naismith 61). Subs not used: Bass, Whatmough, Haunstrup, Deslandes, Smith

Referee: Gavin Ward

Attendance: 17,895 (264 away fans)
