Saints Target Undergoing Medical
Thursday, 28th Jun 2018 16:22

It is being reported that Basel attacker Mohamed Elyounoussi is this afternoon undergoing a medical and his signing for Saints is imminent.

Southampton are poised to sign FC Basel winger Mohamed Elyounoussi with the Norwegian international undergoing a medical at St Mary's, HITC Sport are reporting that he is in Southampton, quoting sources close to the club.

Saints and and German club Wolfsburg both agreed fees in the region of £17million with Basel for Elyounoussi earlier this week, but the player opted to move to the Premier League and seems to be St Mary's bound.

Elyounoussi scored 13 goals and provided 17 assists in 44 appearances for Basel last season, including a goal and a man-of-the match performance during Basel's 2-1 win over Manchester City in the Champions League in March.

There are those who have been bemoaning Saints lack of ambition of late and a lack of signings, but the sale of Dusan Tadic and replacing him with Elyounoussi seems to be a great piece of business, selling on a player in Tadic who has given us four years good service but will turn 30 soon and replacing him with an exciting young talent who will turn 24 on the eve of the coming Premier league season.

Excited about this. Always a shame to lose a player of the quality of Tadic, but he did frustrate me hugely at time and Elyounoussi as his replacements seems unafraid to run at his man at pace. We need pace!

Hopeful we can shift Forster and his astronomical wages. If we can bring in Angus Gunn as competition for McCarthy I'd be delighted.

Finally, a CB - Vestergaard, Jullien or Gibson - all seem like good options, and a striker are needed (Ings anyone)? I think Davis will leave (to Rangers) with our best wishes.

Good start to the summer Saints.

This looks like Mark Hughes is "sparking" a generational change.
First Tadic gone , ..and now Forster is " open to offers ", and surely a good chance for Steven Davis to finish his career (with Rangers) and be welcomed back by the Gers fans who loved him so much.

A real chance to do a bit of "house-cleaning" with Clasie clearly saying he wants to go back to Feyenoord ...they're aren't many of the old guard left now.
Looking back to our return to the Prem.(2012) there are only 3 senior players from that era still with the club; Davis, Yoshida and Ward-Prowse , although it's been a long wait for the likes of McQueen, Gallagher, Reed and Stephens who were all U18's at the time.

we got 4 years out of tadic we wont get 4 years out of this guy if he is the real deal but as you say its a good bit of business, even better if we get the most important piece of the jigsaw a new centre back

Him having been brought up in Norway (his name indicates that he is not originally from Norway) is very positive, as Norwigians are well-known for being serious about their business.
I hope the rumours materialize. Good stats on the player! Lots og goals and assists.

We can still attract quality players, it seems! COYR

Underw....
I suspect that the fact that none of the U18's you listed, have made it yet; should tell you something. Sadly, all four have / will fall by the wayside and finish up at clubs outside of the Prem.
