Transfer deadline day
Thursday, 9th Aug 2018 07:42 by Col

It's the last day of the transfer window, with that window shutting at 5pm today.

It's all changed this year. The end of the transfer window has been brought forward to 5pm tonight rather than the usual end of August. However, clubs will still be able to make loan signings after 5pm today up until the end of August, so I'm sure we'll see a few uses of "with a view to a permanent transfer".

The Head of the EFL put its down to "This new approach will give clubs and managers the stability they crave earlier in the season whilst also providing the flexibility to add to their squads after the traditional deadline until the end of month if required". Given it doesn't fit in with Europe and leaves clubs open to hostile foreign transfers, there is talk that it will revert to the traditional form after this season.

We aren't expecting many changes. Keith Hill has spoken about wanting to get one more player in, but with a squad size of 25 giving cover in pretty much every position, it will come as no surprise if there are no new faces coming this way.

Whilst the comings and goings from Spotland will be the main focus, there'll be more than an eye kept out for activities at the Hawthorns as Dale fans look to see what will happen with Craig Dawson.

The former Dale defender has been linked with a number of teams all Summer. A bid from Watford was rejected on Wednesday, and he remains linked with the likes of West Ham, Newscastle, Leicester and Celtic. Dale are due a sizeable sell on fee so there's a vested interest in it.
