Refwatch: Fleetwood v Dale

Dean Whitestone is the man in the middle for Dale’s trip to Fleetwood on Saturday.

The Northamptonshire-based official hasn’t been seen at a Dale league game since November 2014 when he was in charge of our 3-0 home loss to Oldham.

However, we did see Dean at the League Cup second round tie at QPR two years ago, while on Easter Monday 2014 he refereed the 2-1 win at Bristol Rovers that ended a poor run of April results that threatened to derail Dale’s promotion hopes.

Further back in time Mr Whitestone was in charge of a 3-0 loss at Sheffield United in December 2011, while three months earlier he officiated a 2-0 defeat at Notts County.

That in itself was the first time Dean had refereed Dale since December 2008 when he was in charge for the 2-1 reverse at Port Vale.

One of his most notable appointments was at Spotland for the final home game of the 2006/07 season against Hartlepool which Dale won 2-0, although three red cards, two penalties and a mass brawl kept the referee on his toes.

Dean’s full list of Dale appointments is:

Oct 07 Grimsby v Rochdale W 2-1

Before Tuesday, when he refereed Reading v Birmingham in the Carabao Cup, the police officer had overseen two games this season, showing five yellow cards and two red, both of them to Yeovil players at Bury on the opening day of the campaign.
