Refwatch: Barnsley v Dale
Thursday, 24th Jan 2019 21:05 by TVOS

Dale will meet a new referee on Saturday when Alan Young takes charge of their League One game at Barnsley.

In doing so, he will join the likes of William Burns, Keith Hill and Michael Oliver in a rather unique Dale-referee related list!

The Ely-based official, who is originally from Blackpool, is in his first season on the referees’ list and this will be his debut at a Rochdale game.

Alan’s first league appointment was Crewe v Morecambe in August and since then he has refereed entirely in the two basement divisions, as well as several games in the FA Cup and Checkatrade Trophy.

His 23 games have yielded 97 yellow cards and three red, although the last of those was back in October.

Mr Young’s most recent fixture was Accrington v Bristol Rovers a couple of weeks ago, while at the end of last season he refereed Aldershot v Ebbsfleet in the National League play-offs.
