In a move that wasn't the most surprising transfer ever, Joe Bunney has returned to Spotland on loan until the end of the season a year after leaving the club.

With Dale making signing a left back a priority, speculation was rife as to whether Dale would bring one in ahead of Thursday night's transfer window closure. And in an almost instantaneous move, Joe Bunney had his loan spell at Blackpool cancelled and signed for Dale.

Having left Dale twelve months ago, it's been a difficult spell for Bunney with him struggling to maintain a first team spot at Northampton. A loan spell to Blackpool seemed to be similarly problematic.

Having signed for Dale originally as a striker, it was a switch to left back that proved to be the making of him at Spotland.
