In an emotional statement, Joe Thompson has announced his retirement from football at the age of 29.

After twice overcoming battles with cancer, and scoring the goal in fairytale circumstances that secured our future in League One, Joe Thompson has been forced to call time on his footballing career with immediate effect.

Whilst we could wax lyrical about Joe and the impact that he has had, sometimes its best just to let him speak for himself, and he released a highly emotional statement through the club's website.

The club have announced that there will be an evening in tribute to Joe as well as plans for a testimonial match.
