Closed doors at Fratton? We will just have to get on with it

Kenny Jackett faced up to the prospect of his team playing at an empty Fratton Park and admitted: We'll just have to get on with it.

As League One and League Two clubs continue to discuss how - and in fact - whether to resume the current season and bring it to its natural end, there seems little doubt that when the game does start again, it will not be in front of crowds.

With talk of the two lower divisions of the Football League possibly likely to vote to draw a line under the season as soon as tomorrow (Friday), attention could turn to the start of next season. And if that gets under way on time it seems certain to be behind closed doors.

Jackett told the Pompey website: 'I would always want Fratton Park full if possible and welcome all the expectation and pressure that comes with that. It’s all part of the appeal of this club and if you look at our form there this season, it has been outstanding.

'The link between the crowd and players is excellent and that’s been reflected in the results at home. It has been on the road where we haven’t been quite solid enough and when we’ve been looking for that break, it hasn’t come.

'We haven’t been able to go on that little run needed to take us to the top, rather than grouped in the pack. So the players and I are always positive about being at Fratton Park and the ground will certainly look different if we are behind closed doors.

'But that scenario certainly looks like it is coming and it would obviously result in a totally different atmosphere. It’s why I would always want the crowd there, but if it’s not to be then we simply have to get on with it.'
