CCF Rebooted No.13 - Luke Daniels
Tuesday, 7th Sep 2021 09:04 by AtThePeake

Following a bit of a break after profiling a keeper with just a handful of appearances, the CCF rebooted series returns by profiling a keeper with only one outing in Dale colours.

Position: Goalkeeper

Arrived from: West Brom (loan)

Played : 2010

Appearances : 1

Goals : 0

Left for: West Brom (end of loan)

How much can you say about a player who made just one appearance for the club, particularly when you weren't even at said match?

Well, Luke Daniels was fairly well-known to Dale fans when he arrived at Spotland in 2010 having impressed in the lower leagues with Shrewsbury Town and Tranmere Rovers.

Our friends down the road at Gigg Lane had experienced the Bolton-born stoppers' ability first hand when he made a string of saves for the Shrews to deny the Shakers in a League Two semi-final clash two seasons previous.

Daniels was drafted in on an emergency loan from West Brom in December following a hamstring injury to Josh Lillis and a finger injury to Matt Edwards, but would make just one appearance before the loan ended.

That appearance came in a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Peterborough United, although with Craig Mackail-Smith and Aaron McLean being the goalscorers, not many keepers will have earned clean sheets at London Road that term.

He had further loan spells with Bristol Rovers and Southend United before finally leaving the Hawthorns to join Scunthorpe United in 2015, where he established himself as first-choice and made over 100 league appearances in just two seasons.

After four seasons as a back-up goalkeeper at Brentford, where he featured 17 times, 33 year old Daniels joined Middlesbrough this summer - although he is yet to make his debut for the Boro.
