Refwatch: Rochdale v Newport County Thursday, 16th Dec 2021 10:45 by TVOS Hull referee Carl Boyeson is the man in the middle for Dale’s League Two fixture at home to Newport on Saturday. This is the third time Carl has been appointed to a Dale game this season, although the first — the Carabao Cup tie at Harrogate — never actually took place! The second was our 1-1 draw at Mansfield, which was exactly three months ago from this Saturday. Having joined the league list in 2002, this will be Mr Boyeson’s 31st game involving Dale, with the most recent at Spotland coming in February when he refereed the miserable 4-1 midweek defeat to MK Dons. Carl’s most incident-packed Dale appointment came at the home of Chalky’s mob, Notts County, in January 2005. The match finished 0-0 and was a fairly timid affair, but Boyeson sent-off Dale’s Gareth Griffiths and Ernie Cooksey as we finished the afternoon with only nine men. Cooksey’s red card was later rescinded, meaning he was free to take part in the FA Cup tie at Charlton five days later. Back in our 2013/14 promotion season, Carl refereed two Dale games and proved a lucky charm as they produced six points. Early in the campaign he was in charge of the 1-0 home defeat of bury (a game in which Dale had Peter Vincenti sent-off) and in late-March he was the man in the middle as we won 2-0 at Wycombe. Carl’s full record of Dale matches is: Aug 02 Southend (h), L 1-2 This will be Boyeson’s 14th match of the season, the most recent being Leyton Orient v Crawley last Saturday. He has so far shown 41 yellow cards and one red. Photo: Action Images Please report offensive, libellous or inappropriate posts by using the links provided.
