Refwatch: Rochdale v Bradford City
Tuesday, 18th Jan 2022 09:27 by TVOS

Sussex referee Carl Brook will make his Spotland debut when he officiates at Saturday’s Roses clash with Bradford City.

The 45-year-old, who has been a referee for over 30 years, was promoted to the National List for last season and after refereeing in League Two for a month, his first League One fixture was Dale’s 2-1 win at Shrewsbury in October 2020.

Later in the season he was in the middle for arguably Dale’s most important game of 2020/21, when we travelled to AFC Wimbledon.

A thrilling spectacle ensued, but from 2-0 and 3-2 up, the injury time goal Dale conceded to make the final score 3-3 actually ended-up costing them their League One status. Probably…

Dale also scored three goals the last time we saw Carl, which was in the second away match of this term at Northampton, where Robbie Stockdale’s men recorded a fine 3-1 win.

Despite being based in Sussex, Mr Brook has already travelled to several northern grounds this season, refereeing games at Tranmere, Scunthorpe, Wigan, Oldham and Harrogate.

He was due at Forest Green v Mansfield on Tuesday and before then, he had refereed 17 matches since August, showing 72 yellow cards and five reds.
