This Charman Man

Rochdale have confirmed the signing of Darlington striker Luke Charman for an undisclosed fee on a two and a half year deal.

The Darlington striker turned 24 last month and has been in scintillating form in the National League North this season with 12 goals in just 16 appearances. He’s also found himself red carded twice and is currently serving a suspension that may delay his start at Rochdale.

Charman started his career at Newcastle United, coming up through the youth ranks as a teenager but never broke into the first team. He did have a brief spell on loan at Accrington Stanley in the 2018/19 season but didn’t feature in the league. He did make four cup appearances for them, however. He also featured for Newcastle Under 23’s in the Pizza Cup against Macclesfield Town in September 2019. A certain Corey O’Keeffe was in the Macclesfield side that night!

He signed for Darlington in the summer of 2020 and his goals have sparked interest from a host of football league clubs, especially this season.
