Refwatch: Rochdale v Walsall
Thursday, 7th Apr 2022 09:00 by TVOS

Adam Herczeg will make his EFL debut on Saturday when he referees Dale’s home game versus Walsall.

The County Durham official is presumably in line for promotion for next season and is being sent to the Crown Oil Arena for a trial game for what the appointment people must think is something of a dead rubber in terms of relegation. Let’s hope they’re correct…

This, of course, is nothing new, as Rebecca Welch made the headlines last Easter when she was given a trial game at Harrogate v Port Vale, ahead of her elevation to the National List in the summer.

Mr Herczeg has refereed in the National League for the last two seasons, having ended 2019/20 with the National League North play-off final between Boston and Altrincham.

His 12 appointments in the National League this term, including four at Grimsby, have seen him show 44 yellow cards, but as yet, no reds.

Adam also referees in the U23 Premier League and last Saturday took charge of Burnley U23 v Southampton U23 at the club’s Barnfield Training Centre.
