Devante Rodney joins Dale
Wednesday, 15th Jun 2022 18:04 by AtThePeake

Dale confirmed their third signing of the season on Wednesday afternoon with the arrival of striker Devante Rodney from Walsall.

The 24 year old signs a two year deal just six months after moving to the Bescot Stadium for an undisclosed fee from Port Vale.

Described as hard-working by fans of previous clubs, Dale manager Robbie Stockdale pointed to pace and power as the forward's key attributes.

A former Manchester City and Sheffield Wednesday trainee, Rodney made his league debut for Hartlepool in April 2017 and made 45 appearances, scoring four times, before leaving Victoria Park a year later.

From there, Rodney joined Salford, where he scored once in 19 appearances and spent time out on loan at Halifax Town twice and Stockport. Over his two spells at The Shay he scored 12 times in 20 appearances.

In 2020, Rodney left Salford to join Port Vale and he scored 12 league goals in 54 outings for the Valiants before turning down a contract offer and instead joining Walsall in January 2022 for an undisclosed fee.

The move to the Saddlers doesn't seem to have worked out though and just six months into his two year deal with the Midlands club, he has moved to return to his native North West to join the Dale.
