Rams leading the way for Croft
Rams leading the way for Croft

Sky Sports are reporting that the Rams are set to add winger Lee Croft to the fold as our Nigel looks to fill a problem position for the club on the right hand side of midfield.

Croft, who is set to leave relegated Norwich on a Bosman free, is believed to be highly sought after by clubs from both the Championship and the top flight but appears to have decided to sign on at Pride Park.

Though the Canaries dropped out of the second tier this past season, Croft was one of their better players, picking up the club's player of the year award whilst making 44 appearances in all competitions, notching 5 goals. Formerly of Manchester City, Croft appeared to be on the verge of making a big impact at Eastlands but just failed to make the grade, leading to a £600,000 move to Carrow Road.

A more direct and, in all likelihood, more capable player than the departed Nacer Barazite, Croft should fit in well with Nigel’s new way and could help lessen the pain were Kris Commons to be sold off, which seems pretty likely given the interest from the big league.

With Steve Davies and Luke Varney being talked about as strikers by the manager, bringing in a winger capable of providing a real end product is a must and should this story turn out to be true then this is a big signing for the club as they look to build on the improvements made towards the latter part of the last campaign.
