Dale’s televised home game against Southend United on Saturday evening will be refereed by MATT CORLETT.

This will be Mr Corlett’s first-ever Dale appointment, mainly because he received a promotion to the National List of referees at the same time as we were relegated to the National League!

However, now that the officials cover games from League One, League Two and the National League, our paths have eventually crossed.

It was no surprise that the Bootle-based whistler was promoted to the National List in the summer of 2023 after refereeing Chesterfield v Notts County in the National League play-off final at Wembley.

In 2023/24, he oversaw 27 games at EFL level, which was followed by another 25 last term.

This season has seen Matt referee eight games in League One, League Two and the Carabao Cup, with his most recent outing being at Burton Albion v Lincoln City last Saturday.

Those eight appointments have seen Mr Corlett show 37 yellow cards, but as yet, no reds.
