Rochdale have completed the signing of winger Jonny Smith on a two-year deal following the expiry of his contract with Wigan Athletic.

The 29-year-old arrives at the Crown Oil Arena with plenty of EFL experience, having represented Wrexham, Bristol City, Cheltenham Town, AFC Fylde, Tranmere Rovers, Burton Albion, Wigan Athletic and Gillingham during his career.

Smith isn't a complete stranger to Spotland, having spent time on trial with the club a few years ago before eventually continuing his career elsewhere.

He made 86 appearances for Burton Albion before joining Wigan in 2023, where he won the club's Goal of the Season award during the 2023/24 campaign. He also enjoyed a loan spell at Gillingham last season, scoring in a victory over Newport County.

Smith will wear the number 18 shirt for the 2026/27 season
