Leeds to try again for Jones

Hibs have rejected Leeds’ initial bid for defender Rob Jones, but with the transfer window open for another week, Dennis Wise may go back with an improved offer.

The 27-year-old centre-half still has three years left on his Hibs contract, but has hinted that he wants to return to England. But Hibernian boss John Collins has told the Edinburgh Evening News: "I don't want to sell him and he is under contract. If someone wants to buy him they will just have to wait. I am not going to deny that there has been interest in him, but he is too important to the team to let him go. We have to think about our own team and the way that we want to play."

Jones moved to Easter Road at the start of last season from Grimsby Town and has scored nine goals in 52 appearances for the SPL outfit. Wise told the official site: "We put in an offer and it got turned down, we are waiting to find out what else they would like really. We're trying to get certain players in and he is one we're interested in, we'll wait and see over the next week or so."
