When Coventry scored their goal in the first half there was a group of around 20 Coventry fans giving it large in the centre section of the Itchen.
It got so bad that an elderly lady and her husband appeared to leave their seats and I'm not sure if they ever returned.
Unfortunately there was only one or two stewards in the area and they were unable to do anything apart from, apparently, escorting a Saints supporter away from the scene.
The situation was mentioned on Radio Solent as the view of the pitch was obscured as the Coventry fans were stood up gesticulating at those around them.
Begs the question how such a large group managed to get tickets in the home end.
If they were in the Corporates why do our club allow this to happen when it is against Stadium rules for us mere mortals?

Yeah I’ve heard a few say that there were Coventry fans in the Itchen North, but why is it they weren’t escorted out/no fights or such broke out, as that’s usually what happens when there’s away fans in the home sections making a scene

Yes they were in the corporate seats.

It was obviuos there was a large group as they were singing along with all the Coventray songs

The club do nothing about visiting fans in the boxes or the corpprate seating being sold to away fans. Most of the time its the saints fans thay get kicked out.

The Club seemed more concerned about accommodating as many away fans as possible than making tickets available for all the Saints fans who wanted them. I guess it will be the same for the West Ham game.

The game went to general sale. There were no restrictions at all regarding buying tickets. With Coventry being in a lower league and not a "big" club, Saints misjudged the demand their fans had for tickets. On their forum, many were saying they bought tickets in the home end directly from Saints, no questions asked because anyone can buy a ticket on general sale. Against the top 4, you have to be on the database, but they didn't expect so many Coventry fans to travel.

As for the corporate, the conditions of entry I believe are that you don't wear colours blah blah blah. But against many of the top clubs, various rich people pay to get a box, so no questions are asked because they pay a lot of money.

Hopefully a Tuesday night with horrendous weather and the usual chaos with the rail network making a return trip to Waterloo virtually impossible...so 5150 away tickets not required...throw in Hampshire constabulary cacking themselves with that many East End wide boys descending it might not be the same as yesterday...would hope Ralph takes the game seriously unlike yesterday's scary first eleven...we could of been buried by half-time if they'd been that little bit more fortunate.

When Coventry scored, their fans ripped back the netting and some ran to confront the Itchen, the stewards did nothing to prevent this, of course some in the Itchen got a little overexcited the steward/ police piled in and ejected a few. It was noted that none of the Coventry fans were ejected, just helped back to their seats!!! Someone said that a steward was taken away by the police after punching a Saint's fan in the melee?

After the game, a few of their fans on the way back to the city centre were giving it large trying to get a reaction

Money talks, simple as that. The people in the boxes pay a lot of money, so they throw out the ones paying a tenner. It's the same when we play the top 4 clubs and businesses pay thousands for a box. They are allowed to celebrate, so they just remove the Saints fans in front.

A lot of West Ham fans live nowhere near London.

As shown by their ground being barely over half-full when we played them on Boxing Day

They have a lot of fans in the Bournemouth / Poole area. Annoyingly.

They would sell 5,000 tickets easily.

Didn’t they get a reaction? I know our crowd is a bit more sedate these days but usually nobody used to be able to just turn up in Southampton giving it out and have it all their own way.

Even when it was a big following like Wolves/Spurs/Man United in the cup

The crowd going back to the city centre did not seem to be the usual young lads, maybe had something to do with having to walk miles extra because of all the coaches in Britannia Road

Not so sure, one of my first memories of the Dell is Graeme Sharp scoring 4 against us and a group of 10 or so Everton fans celebrating every goal in the east stand and no one did a thing, it must have been only a few years after the Highbury semi final. I was only about 12 but desperately wanted a few Saints big men to kick the sh!t out of them

Pretty sure I saw a Millwall fan chucked from the top tier of the east stand once, anyone else remember this or did I dream it?
