Doncaster v QPR Betting Preview

The lads called the Palace match nicely last week with Andy picking Helguson for the first goal at 11/2 and Brian registering a correct score bet of 8/1. Not bad, in these times of unpredictable Championship results.

Mr Power hadn’t had a winner for a few weeks – but when they come in for him, they really come in, and he registered a three figure profit for the past seven days with a nicely picked Cheltenham winner too. But I’ll let him boast to you about that himself. The running totals stand now at Andy £41.58 and Brian £476.63 which means, with only seven columns remaining, that Brian cannot fail to make a profit this season even if he loses everything from here on in.

I pretty much have one rule when choosing fixtures for my multiples for the weekend - No early kickoffs - there is nothing worse than your multiple being done and dusted before 3pm. So it was somewhat to my horror to sit down in The Green Rooms at 12:45 on Saturday to watch Birmingham vs. Bolton, and having tipped Bolton to not win, watch Bolton take the lead three times over the course of 90 minutes. Lesson well and truly learnt, pay more attention in future.

Elsewhere, a pretty dismal week all round, saved only by the second (or is it third?) coming of Heidar Helguson, scoring first again for my only winner of the weekend. Betting on the championship is an absolute minefield at the moment - to paraphrase Clive “you'll lose a lot of money very quickly trying to pick the Championship at the moment. Preston 3-0 away winners last night, Millwall take six points five scored and none conceded from QPR H and Burnley A, Burnley take one point from homes games with Millwall and Coventry, Swansea lose at Scunthorpe and Derby, Cardiff only draw at home with Barnsley, Forest only one point from home games with Hull and Doncaster, Ipswich win 6-0 at Doncaster then lose 3-0 at home to Watford.” Challenging times indeed.

This week we’re away at Doncaster in the last game before the international break. Doncaster are pretty much safe from relegation, have no chance of the playoffs, and in absolutely woeful form – one win in ten, including heavy defeats at the hands of Leeds (5-2); Swansea (3-0) and Ipswich (0-6 - ouch!) They also have an injury list that pretty much requires a full time Triage Nurse. This should be, coupled with our recent form, three points. QPR are actually better than evens (11/10) for the outright win, which seems pretty generous, but I’m going to stick with QPR to win to nil, available at 9/4 with Bet365. With Shittu’s one game ban served, I’m going to reinstate him to the first goal scorer market - although his odds have dropped from 40/1 down to 22/1 with some bookmakers - I’ve managed to get him for 33/1 with Paddy Power. Fingers crossed he’ll start. I’ll also stick with Heidar Helguson, available at 13/2 with Bet365.

Elsewhere, and It looks like the majority of the chasing pack have some pretty tricky fixtures, and this could be a perfect opportunity for us to extend our already not inconsiderable (and some would say unassailable…) lead. I’m going to have a cheeky trixie on all three of Hull vs. Norwich, Millwall vs. Cardiff and Swansea vs. Forest being draws, at £2.50 a leg.

Finally, my multiple this week, and I’ve gone for a four legged affair, with NO lunchtime kickoff (my original multiple had Spurs vs. West Ham in it, had to double check it…) I’ve gone for NOT Fulham (at Everton) and Man U, Hearts and Arsenal to win (Arsenal at West Brom is the dodgy one…) odds of nearly 5/1 on Betfair.

For the Weekend:

Doncaster vs. QPR - QPR to win to nil - £15 @ 9/4 (Bet365)

Doncaster vs. QPR - Shittu to score first - £2.50 @ 33/1 (Paddy Power)

Doncaster vs. QPR - Helguson to score first - £2.50 @ 13/2 (Bet365)

Trixie - Hull vs. Norwich, Millwall vs. Cardiff and Swansea vs. Forest being draws - £2.50 a leg / £10 total - odds of 11/1 each double, and 35/1 for the treble (Betfair)

Fourfold multiple - NOT Fulham, Man U, Hearts and Arsenal - £10 @ 4.8 (Betfair)

Back to winning form this week with the correct score last Saturday and Divers for Ferdy Murphy at Cheltenham netting us £172.50.

We head off to Donny on Saturday where the locals won’t recognise the team from our last visit to the Keepmoat where we rolled over in one of our typical northern performances and let the home team tickle our belly and pocket the three points. This time however we are so much stronger that I can only see an away win. This is priced at 11/10 and is worth a punt.

I am going for a 3-1 win (8/1 Skybet) and will have a pop on the in form Helguson for first goal who is 13/2 at Bet365 but only 4/1 with William Hill.

Elsewhere this weekend the 6 Nations comes to its conclusion (God, not before time – ed). My pre tournament selection have disappointed me as their indiscipline cost them the game against France , could have cost them against Scotland and it was poor decisions against Wales that cost them the game. Can they beat England? Well if they cut out the mistakes they can and no Irish team will roll over for England in Dublin as Brian O’Driscoll stated in his press conference .For first try scorer I will have a fiver on Tommy Bowe at 12/1. The 9/5 on offer for an Ireland win appeals. Wales (3/1) travel to Paris and could also cause a surprise and Scotland are at home to Italy and need to win to avoid the wooden spoon. Italy after their victory against the French can beat the Scots at 14/5. Put these three games in a Lucky 15 alongside Man City at 5/1 to win against Chelsea .

Sunday sees the 46th Old Firm Derby this season in the league cup final and in the last few games Celtic have had the edge and this along with Rangers playing on Thursday night means Celtic are a decent price at 6/4, put them in alongside Brighton, Leeds and the R’s then you have 4 good chances. Enjoy the weekend.
