74 Days Later

After an extraordinary, bewildering, brain-burning 74 turbulent days of overwhelmingly appalling and deplorable managment which manifested itself in bust-ups here, there and everywhere, the alienation of coaching staff and players, and an alarming slide down the table Jim Gannon has been dismissed from Vale Park.

And all this set against a backdrop of protests against the Board, the 'Black & Gold Until It's Sold' campaign and gathering support for the Mo Chaudry bid to buy the Club. Wow. Never a dull moment!

There was no way Gannon could remain in charge after the astonishing, and frankly horrendous, scenes at the conclusion of Saturdays 3-0 defeat at Accy Stanley. Gannon was placed in a 'secure area' for his own protection, Exodus Geohagon was involved in ugly exchanges with Fans - Ex has subsequently filed a formal complaint of racist abuse - and surely will not play for Vale again. New loanee Dominic Blizzard gave us a tepid 45 minutes before fleeing back to Bristol Rovers quick sharpish, whilst the likes of Gary Roberts, Gareth Owen and Louis Dodds didn't even make the bench.

Mark Grew has been placed in charge with Geoff Horsfield obviously still in bad books over his part in the shenanigans in the Coach-down-to-Aldershot debacle. It could only happen at Vale.

Anyway, the past is the past, and we are still in with a good shout of making the play-offs. Let's support Grewy, let's support the players, let's support the B&G campaign and Mo Chaudry. Onwards and upwards, we could still be playing in League 1 next season..

And what next for Gannon? You would think that no Club would touch him with a barge pole after this shambles, but it wouldn't surprise me if he's back in work before this season is over. Maybe with time for reflection he would make some considered changes to his own approach, but somehow I doubt someone with such deluded notions of his own abilities could ever see any fault in himself. Expect to see another car crash happening somewhere in League 2 very soon.
