Town Target Villa Defender
Town are reported to want to take Aston Villa centre-half Shane Lowry on loan. The 22-year-old is understood to be available with the Blues having watched him in reserves action tonight with a view to getting a deal done as soon as Tuesday.
Australian Lowry played the full 90 minutes of tonight’s second string game as Villa drew 0-0 at Blackburn.
Lowry, who is 6ft 1in tall, joined Villa from ECU Joondalup in his home town of Perth in 2005. His Irish parentage led to caps alongside former Blues Billy Clarke and Owen Garvan at U21 level having previously featured for the Republic's U17s.
The left-sided central defender or full-back has made three sub cup appearances for Villa but has so far played no league games for the Premiership club. Lowry spent time on loan at Plymouth Argyle and Leeds in 2009/10 and at Sheffield United last season, facing Town both for the Pilgrims and Blades.
Contracted to Villa until 2012, Lowry was named in the provisional Australia squad for the 2010 World Cup having switched international allegiance in 2009, but failed to make the final cut and is yet to win a full cap.
