Town Make Second Bid for Pompey Pair
Town have lodged their expected second bid for Portsmouth pair Joel Ward and Jason Pearce. On Saturday, manager Paul Jewell said he would be discussing whether the Blues would increase their offer with owner Marcus Evans and chief executive Simon Clegg, the first having been rebuffed last week.
That conversation has evidently now taken place with Town increasing their bid from the £1 million offer believed to have been tabled last week.
Since then, it has emerged that Portsmouth are the subject to a winding up order in relation to £1.6 million of unpaid PAYE and may be forced to make player sales with their proposed takeover having fallen through at the end of last week.
TWTD was first to reveal Town's interest in the duo last Tuesday.
We understand that the Blues are yet to make a renewed bid for Crewe midfielder Nick Powell, an offer for the 17-year-old England U18 international also having been turned down last week.
Meanwhile, Town have announced that there will be an extra train to London running after next Tuesday’s home game with West Ham.
