Saints Chase Davis From Glasgow Crisis Club Rangers

Saints are rumoured to be chasing Steve Davis from Glasgow Rangers in what could be a free transfer as the gers players could be free agents.

Saints are alledgedly after Steve Davis from Glasgow Rangers and although Davis has a clause set in his contract that he can go for £1.6 million, it could be he might evoke a free agent clause due to the Ibrox clubs well documented financial problems.

However my first thoughts when seeing that we are chasing Davis is that we are signing no better than we already have, yes Davis has some Premier experience with both Aston Villa and Fulham, but that amounts to a little under 100 starts plus a few as sub, the last of these almost five years ago, just before joining Rangers in January 2008, initially on loan before a £3 million transfer.

In fairness i havent seen much of him, but on paper is he any better than any of the four options we currently have in central midfield, most Saints fans would agree that last season the midfield was a problem area in that there was rarely any continuity with the same four players featuring in consecutive games, sometimes because of injury, but in the main because Lallana apart none of the other players seemed to be that much better than the others, much of a muchness with good games often followed by average ones, the fact we had options did mean that we could rotate and try to keep it fresh, but it didnt give us continuity and often substitutions had to be made to change things.

What the centre of the park is calling out for is an experienced leader, Davis is a leader, captaining both Rangers and his Country, but is he truly the class player that we need or will he become just another option in an already crowded midfield that lacks that true quality we need.
