Is it Dindane Time yet?
Aruna Dindane is hotly tipped to be close to joining the Whites, will Leeds potentially bag a bargain or another Pompey reject?
Dindane arrived at Fratton Park from Lens in 2009 initially on loan and bagged a hat-trick against Wigan. However Portsmouth, then heading towards administration had to use him sparingly or they would have had to cough up a transfer fee of £4.5m which they simply could not afford. In total he played 24 times in the Premiership netting 10 goals.
Having seen a move to Blackburn collapse in 2010, Dindane headed to that emerging foitball hotbed Qatar where he has represented Lekhwiya, Al-Garafa and Al-Sailya. No doubt he is fed up of the climate, the mercury in Doha today is expected to only reach 24'c later today whist 1'c is the maximum temperature expected in Leeds today.
Playing in front of a handful of oil shieks and the obligatory camels must be a high pressured environment, so who would blame him for wanting to swop all that for a half-filled stadium of hyper-critical Yorkshireman?
Dindane, capped 67 times by the Ivory Coast, although overlooked by their squad for the current African Cup of Nations unfortunately seems to fit the bill we have become accustomed to since exiting administration in 2007. Someone who is available on a free, someone only a few of us had heard of and at 32 a year older than Danny Webber who Neil Warnock brought in about a year ago scoring once in 13 appearances.
Maybe Warnock could have a word with Dioufy to see what fellow Senegalese and ex Southampton midfielder Ali Dia is up to these days? Dia you recall played 53 minutes of English football as a sub against us in 1996 after Graeme Souness was duped into thinking he was the cousin of George Weah!
